Sarah Kelly

Quick Facts:
- 2 Grammy Nominations
- Sold approx. 350 000 albums

Sarah Kelly started writing songs around age 7, driven by her desire to worship God in a new way. After making a cd with her youth group and selling 10,000 copies out of her trunk she found herself in the national spotlight in her mid-twenties. Signed to Gotee Records her song “Take Me Away” she reached #6 on the charts and earned Kelly her first Grammy Nomination.

She spent the next 10 years touring non stop across America and Europe, playing to crowds of 10 thousand people or more on a regular basis. On her second album she had the opportunity to work with legendary producer Mike Clink (Guns ’n Roses, Aerosmith, Metallica). Two of the tracks on “Where The Past Meets Today” featured Slash from Guns ’n Roses and earned Kelly her second Grammy nomination.

After five albums Kelly’s life hasn’t exactly slowed down. She’s still touring and making new music but her new passion is the Sarah Kelly Music School where she gets to train the next generation of singers and songwriters. “I love my job, there’s nothing better than seeing a young person learn to express themselves in the language of music. Whether they’re writing the next big radio hit or for the first time being able to put words to what they're going through in life. It breaks my heart to see what teenagers have to deal with in this day and age.”

“I tell my students that they have musical running buddy. They set the pace but I promise to come alongside them and support them in every way possible.” That’s why Kelly and her husband Jonas Ekman launched Sweekman Productions - a production company with a state of the art recording studio. We collaborate with some of the most respected musicians and engineers in LA and Nashville so we’re able to offer our students world class recordings.

“Everyone needs someone to believe in them and invest in them. The reason I am where I am today is that I had people in my life that supported, challenged and mentored me. Now I get to do that for my students, but I also get to introduce them to my mentors.” Several times a year the school put on showcases where our students get to perform for and learn from music industry heavy hitters. Past visitors include Bill Hearn (president of Capitol Christian), Mike Clink (Guns ’n Roses, Aerosmith, Metallica), Jeremy Hunter (Taylor Swift, Tori Kelly), Tobin Hyman (talent producer for The Voice) and Joey Elwood (president Gotee Records)

Kelly is a huge believer in following your dreams, but she’s also learned that it takes a lot more than dreaming if you want to be successful. “The reason I’m qualified to teach these kids is that I know how much work it takes to launch a career as an artist.

The Sarah Kelly Music School exists to inspire, instruct, and empower you to create work of meaning and value through outstanding education, inspiring services, and a network of mentoring and support. We offer songwriting classes, lessons in songwriting, guitar, piano, and voice, special guest events and career classes, and a professional recording studio.

The common thread no matter the industry experience or ambition:  passion for your art, a commitment to doing great work, and a mutual respect for your fellow songwriters and artists.  This breeds a community full of talented people who are inspired to mentor.  It means that every time you're in the building, you are meeting potential collaborators and peers.  And that every class, workshop, or event might truly inspire, instruct, and empower you to make good on your promise as a creative artist.
