While most music lessons focus on reading music written hundreds of years ago our goal is to inspire and teach our students to create their own music.
Here are some things that you'll learn if you join the Sarah Kelly Music School:
Chord playing
We teach you how to play basic chords on the piano. Actually we teach you enough chords to be able to play most pop/rock/worship songs.
Classical training
For our younger students we start out with a bit of classical piano training. This is to teach their fingers to find their way around the piano before we dig into the more creative side of music.
Songwriting
We walk you through the whole process of writing a good song. We include choosing the chords, creating the melody and writing the lyrics.
Ear training
We teach you to listen to music in a new way. You'll learn how to figure out the chords of the songs that you like.
Theory
What is a scale and which chords sound good together? We'll explain how all that works, but we'll never try to impress you by using complicated words like pentatonic or mixolydian.
Sight reading
Once you've learned to understand music by hearing and playing it, we'll also teach you how to read it. For example, it would be like how you learned to understand and speak English before you learned how to read.
Recording
We'll help you record a demo of your song in our own studio. This will help you to understand the role of each instrument in a production and it will give you something to show off to your friends and family. Best of all, it's included in the tuition fee.
